Renting an Alamo hire car to pick up in Costa Rica is hassle-free, and you have the opportunity to select a model to meet you and your family or party's needs. It's the most convenient and economical way to travel while you are enjoying your holiday
Between the Pacific and the Caribbean, Costa Rica benefits from tremendous natural beauty, and it has really made the most of this, achieving the status of most environmentally-friendly country in the world. The benefits of this are immediately discernable: despite the heat and sometime humidity, the air is fresh and the rich forests are in a superb condition, supporting a huge diversity of wildlife. Car hire in Costa Rica gives you the chance to explore this pristine landscape and also - if you have the nerve for it - take on some of the most exciting drives in the world.
Given its dramatic geology, with soaring, rugged mountains and steep precipices, Costa Rica can be a frightening - and thrilling - place to drive through. For those who prefer to stay safe, there are alternative routes, but many drivers won't want to miss the likes of the Cerro de la Muerte ('mountain of death'), where the road snakes through fog which every now and again breaks to reveal stunning views the likes of which you'll encounter nowhere else in the world. There are three rules to staying safe: go early in the morning, don't try to overtake anyone, and don't go if it's raining heavily.
If you have a sturdy vehicle, you may want to attempt the Monkey Trail between Flamingo and Playas Del Coco, where you'll be bumping down rock faces, fording streams and cutting through untamed jungle, and where you'll encounter exotic animals and brilliantly coloured birds. Alternatively, you can drive right up the country's highest mountain, Chirripó, to find a stunning waterfall and lush botanical gardens.
Costa Rica's roads are very variable, for this reason you should make sure your vehicle is sufficiently rugged to cope with the areas you plan to drive through. Seatbelts are mandatory, the top speed limit is 75mph and wherever you go it's a good idea to keep your tank topped up.
